Implementación de un ChatBot como guía digital de Plantas Medicinales

Abstract
Between 2020 and 2025, there has been significant progress in the development of chatbots focused on medicinal plants, driven by advances in Natural Language Processing (NLP) and generative models. This article provides a review of the state-of-the-art during this period, covering the technologies employed, academic and commercial applications, identified challenges, and future projections. The main techniques used are discussed—from dialogue platforms (e.g., Google Dialogflow) to large language models (LLMs) and hybrid approaches with knowledge bases—and notable prototypes such as MedPlantBot and TCMChat are described. The applications of these chatbots in academic (education and public health) and commercial (virtual assistants in alternative medicine) settings are also analyzed. Key challenges such as the representation of specialized knowledge and the accuracy of responses are emphasized, given the need to avoid misinformation in a sensitive domain. Finally, future trends are explored, including the integration of structured knowledge (knowledge graphs) with generative models to improve reliability and interpretability, as well as the expansion of multimodal and multilingual capabilities. This review aims to serve as a guide for Natural Language Processing (NLP) researchers and healthcare professionals interested in developing intelligent assistants that promote the responsible use of medicinal plants.
